Summer fashion isn’t always about discovering a crazy new trend or buying an entirely new wardrobe. It’s more about mixing the clothes you already have with trendy, new pieces. Unexpected patterns, bright pops of color and effortlessly chic street-style outfits are all on-point for this season.
Our Mash Models winners Jo’Qwan Whitmore, a V.O.I.S.E Academy junior, and Maya Reese, a Whitney Young sophomore, tried out the hottest new trends just for you!
For the girls
Ladies, your summer wardrobe should be casual and comfortable. Lightweight, easy-to-wear pieces will keep you cool throughout the hot summer months. After all, no one wants to break a sweat just for the sake of a cute outfit.
Street-style fashion trends will dominate the racks at your favorite stores. Bold colors, graphic tees and printed maxi dresses are all huge trends that are easy to pull off. Here’s our fashion forecast for the summer.
American apparel: Red, white and blue aren’t just for the Fourth of July. Pair these colors together for a classic outfit that’s perfect for summer.
Embellished sweatshirts: You can buy this trend or do it yourself with a simple craft project. Just attach sequins, gems or rhinestones to the shoulders or sleeves of an old sweater. Match your embellished top with a pair of pastel-colored skinny jeans for the ultimate outfit.
Sleeveless denim vests: Replace your jean jacket or spring coat with a cut-off denim vest. We paired our denim vest over an ombre maxi dress for a more laid-back look.
Neon pop: Neon is nothing new, but we challenge you to try something different this summer. Start with a light, washed-out outfit, such as acid-washed denim shorts and a white graphic tee. Then, add a bright cardigan or pullover. Voila!

Guys, this season is all about mixing styles together for an unexpected look. Summer is the best time to play around with new trends!
Whether you’re going on a date or hitting the beach with the guys, there are a few trends that you’ll see again and again. Plus, you can totally carry these basics into the fall months.
White jeans: Move over, girls—white jeans are for guys too. Cuff your white jeans and pair them with a simple tank and a colorful hoodie for a classic combination.
Chambray: Chambray (aka lightweight denim) shirts are perfect for a cool summer day. Guys, wear this trend on a date and we promise your crush will be impressed. Pair chambray with khakis or army green shorts to avoid a Canadian tuxedo situation.
Neon tribal print: Get out of your comfort zone and try this trend. A highlighter-orange, tribal-print tank would look great at Lollapalooza or Pitchfork.
Deconstructed suits: Mix cool street style with tailored suit pieces for a different look. We suggest taking a suit vest or coat and pairing it with a button-down shirt and shorts.
